apple: New Apple AirPods show up on Bluetooth certification site, may support ‘Hey Siri’ commands – Gadgets News

Although Apple was widely expected to launch the next-gen Apple AirPods this year alongside the new iPhone devices, there didn’t show up, leaving several disappointed. But it looks like there indeed is a version of AirPods that will be arriving probably in next few months if not along with the 2019 iPhones. The new AirPods are spotted on Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s regulatory database.

Based on the listing, the wearable device shows the AirPods model numbers A2031 and A2032, which are likely for the two earbuds. The hardware version is also seen to be listed as REV1.1, different from REV1.0 seen for the original AirPods. The Bluetooth SIG listing details confirm that it uses Bluetooth 5.0 tech to connect with iPhone, iPad or Mac devices.

According to rumours, Apple is expected to launch the next-gen AirPods with ‘Hey Siri’ functionality. Everyone was expecting this feature in this year’s iPhone XS, XS Max and XR launch event as the video at the starting of the event showed a woman saying ‘Hey Siri’ while wearing AirPods followed by other voice commands.

Rumours have also pointed out towards a new charging case for the AirPods that support the AirPower wireless charging mat. However, there are no signs of the charging case in Bluetooth SIG. Although Apple has removed the mentions of ‘AirPower’ from most web pages, the retail box of the new iPhone device still say they support the wireless charging mat, leaving a ray of hope for the fans.

On a related note, future AirPods may also take care of your health if the upgraded patent listing by Apple is to be believed. The AirPods are said to come with ‘wellness sensors’ that may work in conjunction with the Apple Watch to help users keep a better tab on their health.

It has been mentioned that the AirPods will have “health, fitness, exercise, and wellness sensors.” It may also transmit “biometric data, heart rate, body movement, and calories burned.”
