Google Home Hub: Google Home Hub with 7-inch display, Assistant launched – Gadgets News

In addition to Pixel Slate and Pixel 3 smartphones, Google introduced an ‘updated’ Google Home with a smart display called Google Home Hub. The device is powered by Google Assistant and helps users in showing them content or information extracted from Search, YouTube, Google Photos, Calendar, Maps and more.

It is priced at $149 and is available in the US from today (October 9). The India price and availability details are not known yet.

Home Hub has a 7-inch screen with soft rounded corners and a stand to support it. It comes in four colour variants: Chalk, Charcoal, Aqua and Sand. The device lacks a camera as Google wants to make customers feel okay with placing it anywhere in their homes.

There’s an Ambient EQ light sensor at the top that lets the screen auto manage the brightness levels according to the room’s lighting conditions. “That means no glowing screen—it fits seamlessly into your home. When it’s time for bed, Hub knows to dim the screen for a good night’s sleep,” adds the Google blog post.

The device also comes with some of the new software features, one of which is Routines. This gives users a brief information of the day ahead. All they need to do is to say ‘Hey Google, good morning’ to get an overview from Google Calendar, Maps, reminders and more. Up to six users can have a personalised Routine in Google Home Hub.

The Hub can also support third-party devices such as Phillps Hue lights, Nest thermostat, Vizio, August, smart cameras and more. “Google Home Hub is also a photo frame, but not your average one: it’s easy to set up, automatically refreshes the photos that are displayed and features your best shots,” adds the firm. The device takes images from Live Albums feature in Google Photos when not in use.

It is also possible to say ‘Hey Google, goodnight’ to set an alarm, turn off connected lights and appliances, front door and play soothing music.
