Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with improved S-Pen launched: Price, specifications and availability

New York: South Korean smartphone company Samsung launched its Galaxy Note 9 phablet at an exclusive event in New York. This is the seventh-generation Note device with its unique S-Pen stylus. Like the previous Galaxy Note devices, this one too comes with a big screen and improved productivity features compared to its flagship Galaxy S series.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 price and availability

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be available in four colours — Black (with Black S-Pen), Purple (with Purple S-pen), Copper (with Copper S-Pen) and Ocean Blue (Yellow S-Pen). The company has launched the Galaxy Note 9 in two memory variants 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage and 8GB of RAM and 512GB storage. Both the variants support microSD cards up to 512GB. Though the company has not disclosed the India pricing, sources reveal that the smartphone will be priced between Rs Rs 65,000 to Rs 70,000.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 looks largely similar to the current-generation Galaxy Note 8. Samsung, however, has introduced subtle changes in the design and the smartphone is more compact to hold. In India, the Galaxy Note 9 will run on the the company’s flagship 2.7GHz 64-bit octa-core Exynos 9810 processor. This is the same processor that powers the company’s current-generation flaghip Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones. Keeping performance in mind, Samsung claims that its Note 9 is 33% faster than the Note 8 and has deployed bigger carbon fibre heat pipes with water inside to dissipate heat. The Galaxy Note 9 runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the box.

The smartphone features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity display with Quad HD+ resolution of 2960×1440 pixels and 516 ppi. The device weighs 201 grams and house the a 4,000 mAh battery which is the largest in any Samsung phone and supports Fast Charging. The Note 9 and the S-Pen carries IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

As far as the camera is concerned, Note 9 features same hardware module as in the flagship Samsung Galaxy S9+. There is a dual-camera setup at the back with a 12MP wide-angle sensor with f/1.5 and f/2.4 dual aperture and a 12MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture. Both the lenses have optical image stabilisation. At the front, there is an 8MP camera with f/1.7 aperture for selfies.

Connectivity and security options are the same that are present in the Galaxy Note 9 which includes Bluetooth 5.0, LTE Cat 18, WiFi, Ant+, NFC, MST along with Iris, Face and fingerprint biometric security options.

In a first Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has Dex software features integrated and users can connect smartphone to any monitor independently by using USB Type-C or HDMI dongle. When it’s connected you can give a presentation (or showcase videos, etc) on the monitor while playing or talking to someone on the Galaxy Note 9.

The new S-Pen

Samsung for the first time incorporated a major hardware addition in the S-Pen. The new Galaxy Note 9’s S-Pen now supports low-power Bluetooth making it way more useful than ever. Samsung claims that the Note 9 will alert users about the battery life of the S-Pen and it takes just 40-seconds to get fully-charged. Uses will just have to insert the S-Pen in the Note 9 to charge it.

With Bluetooth, several new features are now available for the S-Pen.You can use it as a clicker during a presentation or a remote trigger to capture photos and more. Samsung is planning to open the SDK for the S-pen to offer more features in future.
